Narrator:  “Fires ruin lives.  Every year in Tyne and Wear we respond to over 14,000 fires.  But we’re equally proud of the fires that we prevent.”

Narrator:  “We work with you and your local community to prevent fire from ruining your life.”

 

  • A female wearing a white Fire and Rescue shirt talks to another female in her home, and demonstrates a smoke alarm.

 

Narrator: “We offer free home fire safety checks to keep you safe.”

 

  • A Firefighter shows a fire appliance to a group of young people.

 

Narrator: “And we work with young people to show them the devastating consequences of fires.”

 

  • A female talks to young people and information posters are displayed.

 

Again the flames are shown in the background and one-by-one people walk out in front of them:

Narrator: “It’s not just about fighting fires, our staff have many roles.  But in everything we do we’re working to protect you.”

 

 

  • Mechanics work on a fire appliance using a variety of tools

 

Narrator: “We have mechanics to make sure our fire appliances are ready to respond 24 hours a day.”

 

  • People jog and swim, and are encouraged by instructors.

 

Narrator: “We make sure our firefighters are fit and healthy and at their best.”

 

  • Firefighters put on protective gear, train in fire conditions and cut open a vehicle.

 

Narrator:  “We train our firefighters to use the latest rescue methods and equipment.”

 

  • A firefighter talks to a man and a police officer outside a work building.

 

Narrator:  “We ensure that local businesses and offices are safe.”

 

  • A man screws tight a fire extinguisher.

 

Narrator:  “Working behind the scenes to create an efficient and effective Fire and Rescue Service.”

 

  • The ‘flames’ appear in the background and once again people walk towards the camera one by one:

Narrator:  “But if the worst happens and disaster does strike, we will be there in minutes.”

 

Appliances, with sirens on, drive out of a station

 

Narrator: “If there’s a fire in your home or business we will be there.”

 

  • Firefighters work with long vehicles, cutting into a lorry.

 

Narrator:  “If you have a serious road traffic collision we will be there.”

 

  • A crew rescue a man from a river, pulling him onto a boat.

 

Narrator:  “If you’re stranded in a river, we will be there.”

 

  • A crew drill into rocks

 

Narrator:  “If you’re trapped we will be there.”

 

  • A firefighter rescues someone down a cliff, lowering them on ropes

 

Narrator:  “You can rely on us to keep you safe.”

 

  • A man in a Fire and Rescue uniform gives a presentation to a room full of people

 

Narrator:  “We work together with our partners to offer the best possible service to you and your local community.”

 

  • A Fire and Rescue worker and a Police Officer have a discussion with a man.

 

Narrator: “We work with the police, preventing antisocial behaviour and take action against anyone who starts a fire.

 

  • Young people in a room receive a talk

 

Narrator:  “We work with you local authority to keep your local environment safe.”

 

  • A female in a Fire and Rescue uniform talks to a class of schoolchildren.

 

Narrator:  “And with schools, delivering fire safety information to young people.”

 

The flames reappear and people walk one by one towards the camera:

Narrator:  “Most of all we work with you – without your help we wouldn’t be able to achieve everything we do.”

Narrator:  “And with charities, helping to raise money for vital causes.”

 

  • People play golf, football, ride bikes, and run

 

Narrator: “We know how to have fun too, joining in sporting events in the community from football to swimming to triathlons.”

 

  • A caption appears in front of flames – “Continuously improving the services we deliver”

  • This is replaced by: “Reducing the number of deaths from all fires”

  • And “A reduction of accidental fires in the home”

  • And finally – “Creating the Safest Community”

 

Narrator:  “At Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service we’re always moving forward, pioneering new ways of making you safe and ensuring we offer a modern and effective service.”

 

  • A fire station is shown from the outside.

  • Two men walk to reception

Narrator:  “Our fire stations offer excellent facilities for the community as well as providing a modern base for our firefighters.  We use the latest vehicles and equipment to respond to fires and other incidents – and we’re always trying to improve the service we offer to you.”
