Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service covers a geographical area of 538 sq. km, serving a population of 1.09 million across five local authority areas: Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland.
We put out fires, rescue people from road traffic collisions and other incidents, and deal with major floods. We also work to prevent fires from happening in the first place, providing fire safety education and advice to help people keep their homes and businesses safe from fire.
In order to do this, we have a range of specialist equipment and specially trained people.
