Clare Maddocks Diversity and Resources Manager

Clare Maddocks, Diversity and Resources Manager within the Human Resources & Learning and Development function, has been with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for over 4 years.  Clare’s remit includes developing Diversity and Equality policy and procedures and managing departments within the Resources Group comprising; Business Services, Catering, Cleaning, Principal Officers Support Team and Support Services.

Clare studied continuously since leaving full-time education to Masters Level, whilst working full-time.  During her time studying towards a degree in Public Sector Management she found herself interested in the Human Resource Management element of the programme.  She decided to pursue a career in this field and recently became a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

 

Clare has worked mainly within the public sector over the last 15 years.  She has worked for large organisations including the University of Northumbria, Newcastle City Council and the Department of Health / Commission for Social Care Inspection before taking up her post with the Fire and Rescue Service.

 

When asked what you enjoy most about working for the Service Clare said, “It’s hard to say what I enjoy most because I like so many aspects of my job.  It’s a great place to work, the people I work with are friendly and supportive, the organisation itself is advancing and improving all of the time which makes my job interesting and varied and there are excellent opportunities for career development and progression”.


Rachel Beadle Diversity and Equality Advisor

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service are pleased to introduce our new Diversity and Equality Advisor, Rachel Beadle.  Rachel joined the Service in late September and brings with her a wealth of experience from her previous roles.

 

Rachel has come full circle in her career initially working in a 999 control room for British Telecom and then taking various roles within the private sector which included customer services, HR, Call Centre Management and Training and development. During this time Rachel qualified as a teacher, earning her BA (Hons) in Education and is a member of the institute for learning (MIFL)

 

For the past three years Rachel has worked for Equality North East providing equality and diversity support, training and consultancy to numerous organisations across the country. During this time she became a member of the institute of equality and diversity practitioners (MIEDP) and is currently studying at the School of International Law at The University of Central Lancaster for her MA in Promoting Equality, Managing Diversity and Human Rights Law.

 

Rachel’s approach to equality and diversity is through using a people centric focus to delivering the right message in the right way and helping break down barriers through effective education in the subject of Equality and Diversity.


Her passion for fairness is what drives her to work in this arena in addition to personal experience which gives greater in-depth understanding of equality issues.
