To provide consistency throughout the Service and to support the introduction of national callsigns, the names of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service's community fire stations (CFS) will change from July 1st 2009.
The new names, listed below, also clearly illustrate the local authority area in which the stations serve.

Gateshead becomes Gateshead East Community Fire Station at Shipcote
Birtley becomes Gateshead South Community Fire Station at Birtley

Gosforth becomes Newcastle North Community Fire Station at Gosforth
Fossway becomes Newcastle East Community Fire Station at Byker
Colby Court becomes Newcastle South Community Fire Station at Rye Hill
