North East Fire and Rescue Service Management Board

The Fire Authorities of the North East namely:

 

  • The Cleveland Fire and Rescue Authority

  • County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority

  • Northumberland County Council

  • Tyne and Wear Fire and Civil Defence Authority

 

in the interests of co-ordinating more effectively the formulation of policy in relation to the functions referred to below:

 

  1. ensuring resilience to emergencies, especially potential chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear attack;

  2. specialist or common services where appropriate, such as fire investigations;

  3. establishing regional control rooms;

  4. introducing regional based procurement or procurement to national standards;

  5. developing regional training strategies and delivery; and

  6. introducing regional personnel management and human resources management functions.

 

and achieving greater efficiency in the use of their resources established a Regional Management Board with effect from 1st January 2004.

 

Membership of the Board is by nominated elected Members from each of the four Authorities, with appropriate political proportionality. There are currently four Members from each Authority nominated with the Chairmanship of the Board delegated to Tyne and Wear at this time.
