Clare McCluskey Diversity and Resources Manager

Clare has worked for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for over 5 years. Her remit includes managing Diversity and Equality and departments within the Resources Group which comprises administrative and support functions. 

Having studied continuously since leaving full-time education to Masters Level, whilst working full-time, during her time studying towards a degree in Public Sector Management she found herself interested in the Human Resource Management element of the programme.  Clare is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  

Clare has worked mainly within the public sector over the last 16 years.  She has worked for several large organisations including the University of Northumbria, Newcastle City Council and the Department of Health / Commission for Social Care Inspection before taking up her post with the Fire and Rescue Service.  

When asked what you enjoy most about working for the Service Clare said, “It’s hard to say what I enjoy most because I like so many aspects of my job.  It’s a great place to work, the people I work with are friendly and supportive, the organisation itself is advancing and improving all of the time which makes my job interesting and varied and there are excellent opportunities for career development and progression”.

Rachel Beadle Diversity and Equality Advisor

Rachel has worked for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for over 1 year. Her remit includes developing diversity and equality policies, assessing for equality impact, training and providing advice and guidance to all staff in the organisation. 

Rachel has worked within an equalities remit for over 10 years spanning across the private, third and public sectors. During this time Rachel qualified as a lecturer and has earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Equality, Diversity and Human Rights a BA (Hons) in Education and is a Member of the Institute for Learning. 

Rachel has worked for Equality North East providing equality and diversity support, training and consultancy to numerous organisations across the country. During this time she became a Member of the Institute of Equality and Diversity Practitioners and is soon to complete an MA in Promoting Equality, Managing Diversity and Human Rights Law. 

Rachel’s approach to equality and diversity is through using a people centric focus to delivering the right message in the right way and helping break down barriers through effective education in the subject of Equality and Diversity.

Her passion for fairness is what drives her to work in this arena in addition to personal experience which gives greater in-depth understanding of equality issues.
 

When asked how she felt about working for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Rachel said "Over the past year I really feel I have had the opportunity to work with colleagues across the service to make improvements in relation to Diversity and Equality and it has been very rewarding to be part of such important and significant change”.
